Looking for Halloween ideas to do with your kids? Being 7 months into the pandemic, we know this Halloween might be a little different than past years. The old tradition of taking our kids trick-or-treating might not be the best and safest way to celebrate Halloween in 2020.
Some of us, myself included, want to find other ways to celebrate Halloween this year and other activities to do with our kids. So what can you do with your kids this year instead of trick or treating? Here are 9 activities to do with your kids this Halloween during the pandemic.
1. Pumpkin Carving
Pumpkin carving can be a great Halloween activity to do with your kids. And it’s an activity that can be done in the comfort of your own home. You can do freestyle carving if you are good enough. Or you can use a pumpkin carving kit to carve your pumpkin into your own unique design.

2. Halloween Scavenger Hunt
There are a couple ways a Halloween scavenger hunt can be done. For your little ones, you can create a list of Halloween items that they need to cross off as they find them hidden around your house. This list would make it easy on your little ones to understand as they find the items. However, for your older kids, who can read and understand a more advanced scavenger hunt, you could use rhymes and riddles that they need to solve in order to find the items you have hidden.
3. Virtual Costume Contest with Family and Friends
This one can be fun for kids of all ages. If you are not able to get together with family and friends this Halloween or go trick-or-treating at their houses, you can still get together virtually. Have your kids dress up into their costumes and invite your friends and family to a virtual party. Then let all the kids show off their costumes and have the adults judge. After the judging has commenced, choose a winner and maybe offer a gift card as a prize (a prize that can easily be mailed). 4. Halloween Movie Night
A Halloween movie night can be a great family fun night. Gather up your family, make some popcorn, and cuddle up together on the couch for a fun-filled movie night. There are some great family-friendly Halloween movies to choose from.
5. Trick-or-Treating Alternative
Not going trick-or-treating this year because of the pandemic, here is another trick-or-treating idea that can be done from a distance keeping everyone involved safe. Put together Halloween goodie bags to leave at families, friends, and neighbor’s doors who have children. And have them do the same at your house for your children.
6. Bake Fall or Halloween Treats
This can be a fun activity to do with your kids this Fall or Halloween…baking some yummy treats. My son loves to help me cook and bake. He always has to grab his stool so he can reach the counter to help. This fall we made pumpkin cream cheese muffins. The recipe can be found on Mel’s Kitchen Cafe. And these turned out great and so yummy!

7. Decorate for Fall or Halloween with Your Kids
Decorating for the fall or Halloween (or any holiday really) can be a great way for your family to come together. Letting the kids help in the decorating process can make them feel grown-up and they’ll love it. I know my son loves to help out with decorating (he loves to help with anything really) and we let him help with the easy parts since he’s still little.

8. Visit a Harvest Festival
Going to a harvest festival is a great family event for the fall. My family and I travel to a harvest festival, Roba Farms, every year, and we have a blast. If you are able to venture over to Roba Farms, I definitely recommend it, but if not, search for a harvest festival near you. And if you find one near you, go visit and have fun!
Tip – If you are going to a harvest festival (any harvest festival), check with them on their safety precautions and protocols first before visiting.
9. Make Arts and Crafts
Arts and crafts is an activity all little kids love to do. They love to color, draw, paint, and build. Sit down with your kids to create some master pieces. There are so many arts and crafts ideas that you could choose from. One arts and crafts that my son made recently was a pirate’s hat. And it was an easy one for him to make. You can go and search for different arts and crafts ideas on pinterest.

Here you have it. 9 great ideas to do with your kids this fall and Halloween. I hope you have found this list very useful for you and your family.
